WEST MEETS EAST - STEPPING FORWARD
a step forward for the seminal project of the world music
A flamboyant painting in colorful Indian raga & tala of famous Romanian and Hungarian tunes, reimagined for violin, sitar, tabla, and bansuri.
Played with punch and joy by a close friend of Yehudi Menuhin (Gilles Apap, "the renegade fiddler"), and a disciple of Ravi Shankar (Udhai Mazumdar) and his apprentices.
HOW IT STARTED
in 2017, in Romania, with a revival of the famous “West meets East” albums of Ravi Shankar and Yehudi Menuhin.
The meeting at mid-distance between the Eastern and the Western World, inspired the musicians to find new blends of sounds.
The result was a new music. Songs from Transylvania, Moldavia and Walachia got new avatars, being recomposed for violin and Indian instruments. Plus, 3 sold-out tours with 2500 spectators each, for 3 years in the row.
